You can't talk about Rockland without mentioning its' deep ties to the lime industry. Rockland had the deepest lime quarry in the world at one time. Lime quarried and processed right here in 1800's has been used all over the world. At one time, there were 125 lime kilns along the water front. There are many abandoned quarries along a stretch of road approaching the west side of town.
